Woronora Water Filtration Plant

Woranora Water Filtration Plant
Woronora, NSW.

Worley Parsons in conjunction with Sydney Water Corporation and Energetics formed an alliance to
develop renewable energy resources at targeted Sydney Water facilities around Sydney and some
outlying facilities.  This initiative is known as the SWC Renewable Energy Generation Program.
Woronora Water Filtration Plant is one of the targeted sites for development.

Woronora Water Filtration Plant supplies up to 160million litres of filtered drinking water per day to
the population of the southern suburbs of Sydney.  The aim of this project was to cut in to the existing
water line and install a turbine generator to capture the energy lost in the existing Pressure Reducing
Valve (PRV).

Infrastruction were awarded the supply, construction, fabrication and installation of all Civil, Mechanical
and Associated Pipework required for installation and commissioning of the turbine generator.  The
proposed construction works were defined by four stages as outlined below:

Stage 1: Excavation and trenching to facilitate pipe connections.

  • Clear area, excavate and retain slope

Stage 2: Civil works including pipe cut-ins, embedding pipes and building construction.

  • Install new pipe off-take and isolating valves on concrete footings
  • Excavate for discharge pipework and building foundations
  • Cut-in discharge connection and install discharge pipework valve and backfill
  • Construct powerhouse

Stage 3: Mechanical/Electrical installation.

  • Install and connect turbine and generator
  • Install and connect mechanical and electrical balance of plant equipment

Stage 4: Practical Completion.

  • Handover project quality control and other contract documentation
